Matters is anything that occupies space. Everything around us is matter. The air, chair, trees, water etc everything is matter.

There are three states of matter :-

Solid - the particles of solid is very tightly packed. They can't be compressed. They are rigid and have fixed shape. The force if attraction is larger in solid.

Liquid - the particles of matter are comparitibly loosely packed. They can be compry but not much. Liquids don't have fixed shape and they aren't rigid. The force of attraction in liquid is not much as in solid.

Gas - the particles of gas is very loosely packed. There's a lot of space between them. Particles of gaseous state can be compressed easily and they don't have fixed shape. The force of attraction is very less.
