indicators are the substances which is used to test whether the substance is acidic or basic....

indicators are of three types

natural = litmus

synthetic = methyl orange

olfactory = onion

if we take an example of litmus paper so the natural colour of litmus is purple

1)when you put it in a acidic solution it changes it colour red

2)in basic solution it shows blue colour

3)if the water is pure so litmus paper doesn't changes its colour
