So first we need to find the principal value on which we need to find the S.I.

Therefore we use hit and trial method for this question to solve

Let the interest of 1st year be 240, Therefore principal would be

Now the interest of 2nd year on (2000+240) would be

2240\times\dfrac{12}{100}=268.8 i.e. our total interest for 2 years would be 240+268.8=508.8

Therefore assume that our principal is 2000 itself from that way our 2 years S.I would be =240\times2=480, It should be a little bit greater than this as we assume 508.8 as our interest.
