LIFE IN CITY ❤

I very much enjoy city life. Following are just some of the benefits and resources:

Things are in walking distance.

There's always something going on.

City living is dynamic and you encounter a wider range of individuals from different backgrounds.

Transportation is made easy with various forms of public transit and many people ride bicycles to work.

City people seem to be more focused on health and fitness activities and perhaps that's because there are so many resources nearby, not to mention competition for mates. You might be surprised to see so many people jogging on the sidewalks each day.

Cities have parks that serve as a little oasis that gives you the illusion that you're getting away from the intensity. The parks are almost always full of interesting characters from street performers to vendors of homemade goods.

You always have food choices with so many restaurants available, and there's generally cuisine from around the world.

Living in the city has always been a polarizing topic. Many could never imagine coexisting with millions of other people within a 10 mile radius, while others claim that being part of the pulse of a big city is something they could never live without. Rural communities offer advantages such as open space, more privacy, and fresh air, while urban living can offer exciting events, beautiful buildings and city parks, and the latest in cultural trends that can only develop in major cities. A preference between urban and rural living usually emerges based on upbringing, but an understanding of the appeal of city life may discourage rural Americans from judging too quickly. The collection of essays gathered and summarized here offer first-hand insights into the daily happenings of life in the fast lane in cities ranging from New York City to Chicago to New Orleans.

The Good

When rural folks argue about the downsides of life in the city, dangers like crime and pollution are often brought up. Others may bring up complaints about feeling insignificant amongst millions of city-dwellers going about their day. However, writers like Malcolm Gladwell, Mike Rose, and Clive Thompson, who have all lived in large cities for long periods of time, seek to correct misconceptions about living in an urban setting

The Bad

We must be careful not to express the idea that city life is the absolute best lifestyle. While it can be exciting to be a part of a big city, there are certain aspects of the rural mentality that remind us that the city lifestyle isn’t without its flaws. From the dangers of natural disasters to the sad reality of inner city gangs among youths, cities can be home to some violent aspects of life that have negative effects on mankind.
