unit of measurement A standard amount of a physical quantity, such as length, mass, energy, etc, specified multiples of which are used to express magnitudes of that physical quantity the.

THE ADVANTAGES OF USING DIFFERENT UNITS OFMEASUREMENT. Unit ofmeasurement is a definite magnitude of a physical quantity, defined and adopted by convention or by law, that is used as a standard for measurement of the same physical quantity. Different systems of units used to be very common.

FUNDAMENTAL AND DERIVED UNITS. The units offundamental physical quantitiesare called fundamental units. Theyare length, mass and time. Theseunits can neither be derived from one another nor can be resolved into any other units. They areindependent of one another.

These quantities were from the few fundamental quantities such as time, mass, temperature, electric charge, distance, etc.

Examples of derivedquantities are the following: force with a unit of newton = derived from kg, m and second since 1 newton = 1 kg * 1 m/s^2.

Difference between fundamental quantities are things like length, mass, time which in SI have unitsof meter (m), kilogram (kg), and seconds (s).
On the other hand, derived quantities depend upon other fundamental quantities for their measurement. for example: Mass is a fundamental physical quantity. It's SI unitis Kg.
