how to do middle term splitting of a quadratic equation. such as x^2+4x-12 to get its roots

Splitting the middle term

x {}^{2}  + 4x - 12 = x  {}^{2}   - 2x + 6x - 12

Steps to get this given in the pic above.

x {}^{2}  - 2x + 6x - 12 =

x(x - 2) + 6(x - 2)

(taking the common term outside. )

=(x+6)(x-2)
