AIR is a good insulator at low voltage but not a perfect insulator actually....

we cannot pass normal electric current through air but the thunder and lightning is due to heatup in air which leads to rise in very high temperature

and the current passes through it.....

now as u are curious the question arises as the weather is very pleasant that time so how can we say the temperature is worm....

the speed of lightening and thunder is more than speed of wind and the cool temperature cannot break the ray of thunder......
