In vascular plants , phloem is the living tissue that transports the soluble organic compounds made during photosynthesis , in particular the sugar sucrose to the parts of plants were it's needed . The transport process is called translocation .

Phloem tissue consists of conducting cells, generally called SIEVE elements, parenchyma cells, including both specialized companion cells and unspecialized cells and supportive cells, such as FIBRES  and SCLEREIDS .

The function of phloem fibre :

Bast fibre (also called phloem fibre) is plant fibre collected from the phloem (the "inner bark") or bast surrounding the stem of certain dicotyledonous plants. They support the conductive cells of the phloem and provide strength to the stem.
