New gravitational force will become four times the original one that is 16 N

Explanation:

  • Gravitational force is the force between any two bodies in the universe separated by some distance and is given as

            F = \frac{G m_{1}m_{2}  }{r^{2} }

where m₁ = mass of one object

m₂ = mass of another object

r = distance between the objects

G = gravitational constant

F = forces between the objects

Given force is 4 N

F = \frac{G m_{1}m_{2}  }{r^{2} }

=> 4= \frac{G m_{1}m_{2}  }{r^{2} }        ........................................(1)

when distance is reduced to half let the new force is F₁ and the distance is r₁

=>  r₁ = \frac{r}{2}                  ................................(2)

New force is given as

F₁ = \frac{G m_{1}m_{2}  }{r_{1} ^{2} }

=> F₁ = \frac{G m_{1}m_{2}  }{(\frac{r}{2}  )^{2} }                ( from equation (2))

=> F₁ = 4 *\frac{G m_{1}m_{2}  }{r^{2} }

=>  F₁ = 4 F         ( from equation (1))

=>  F₁ = 4 * 4

=>  F₁  = 16 N
