The drunkard takes 5 steps forward, and 3 steps back. 

For one such cycle, he takes 8 seconds, and his effective displacement is 2 m.



This way, the drunkard will cover 6 metres in 3 cycles (i.e. 3*8 = 24 seconds)


Now, at this moment, he will take 5 steps forward and his distance would be 11 metres, before taking 3 steps back.  


Thus, before he can now take 3 steps back, he falls into the pit. 


So, we finally add these 5 seconds more to our answer.


So, total time taken = 24+5 = 29 seconds
