Calculation :

1. First draw the vectors available in the question.

2. 12 m/s towards east

3. 5 m/s towards south

these velocity vectors are perpendicular vectors.

Therefore, the net velocity

= √ (12^2 +5^2)

= √ (169)

= 13 m/s

The velocity vector will be at an angle of

tan -¹ (12/5) with south.
