We assume face value of both the shares is Rs. 100

Given total amount invested = Rs.13,500

Total income = Rs. 560

Let us say the amount invested in 6% shares of Rs 140 each = x

Then

the amount invested in 5% shares of Rs 125 each = 13,5000 - x

Income from 6% share = x*(100/140)*(6/100) = x*6/140 = 3x/70

Income from 5% share = (13500 - x)*(100/125)*(5/100) = (13500 - x)*5/125 = (13500 - x)/25

Total income from both the shares

= 3x/70 + (13500 - x)*/25

= (5*3x - 14*x + 14*13500)/350

= (x + 189000)/350

Total income is given as Rs. 560, therefor

(x + 189000)/350= 560

we simplify this equation to get value of x as follows:

x + 189000 = 560*350 = 196000

x = 196000 - 18900

x = 7000 = amount invested in 6% shares at Rs 140 each.

Amount invested in 5% shares at Rs 125 each = 13500 - 700 = 6500

Answer:

Amount invested in shares of Rs.140 each = Rs.7000

Amount invested in shares of Rs.125 each = Rs.6500
