Answer:

time taken is 2s and distance used is 38.4m

Explanation:

we will solve it using concept of relative motion.

speed of car A = 60km/h = 16.7 m/s

speed of car B = 42km/h = 11.7 m/s

total distance between car A and car B is 10m

To overtake car B , car A has to travel 5m (its own length) and 5m extra (length of car B)

S = 10m

also velocity of car A wrt car B = 16.7 - 11.7 = 5m/s

Now , 10m = 5 m/s × time (t)

=> t = 2s

car A takes 2 sec to overtake car B

Now distance travelled by car A wet ground is = 2 x 16.7 = 33.4 m

car A also travelled 5m extra ( its own length)

total distance= 5 + 33.4 = 38.4m
