the function of oesophagus is to carry food from mouth to stomach by the process of peristalisis
oesophagus is a long elastic andmuscular structure in the middle of pharynx and stomach
the mucus helps the food bolus to slide down easily and protect the walls of oesophagus from injury
contraction and relaxation of circular and longitudinal muscles bring in a wave like motion that propels the food bolus into stomach is known as peristalisis
