In Overlapping difference, any one community dominate the other communities. In other words one community tends to be more powerful than other.

Example :-

In Northern Ireland

The protestents tends to be more rich and powerful than catholics.

In cross cutting difference, all the communities are equal.

Example :-

In Netherlands

Both the communities, protestents and catholics have equal powers and status of living.
