4 (a) The writer had such a feeling because he knew that the boys were very hard-working, independent and never wanted anyone to pity them or help them.
(b) The boys never knew that the writer had come to know about their secret. So it didn't reflect upon boys in anyway.
(c) The writer krp quite because he didn't want to hurt the boys' dignity and pride by letting them know that he had known about their secret. Also it was a question of his own impression too.
