25. A rain shadow is a dry area on the leeward side of a mountainous area (away from the wind). The mountains block the passage of rain-producing weather systems and cast a "shadow" of dryness behind them.

Example : leeward sides of western ghats

28.The southern slopes of the Himalayas receive more rain due to the south west monsoon winds which travel west along the southern slops. The northern slopes do not receive any such rainfall. So the southern slopes are covered with thick vegetation and have a humid temperature as compared to the northern slopes

30. Kolkata is situated nearer the sea i.e, it is under the influence of land and sea breeze is the reason why Kolkata is warmer than kanpur in December

31. The western part of India is mainly a desert region because it receives very less amount of rainfall. This is because by the time the monsoon winds reach this part of India they have already lost most of their moisture which results in an arid climate in this region.

34.During October, with the apparent movement of the sun towards the south, the monsoon trough or the low-pressure trough over the northern plains becomes weaker.

This marks rise in temperature and decrease in humidity content. This is known as October heat.
