Among those 23 pairs only 1 pair are sex chromosomes.

In male sex chromosomes are unmatched i.e. (X,Y) while in females these are matched (X,X)

The sex of a child is dependent on what the child will get from its father.

In human beings there are 23 pairs of chromosomes out of which 22 pair are autosomes and the other pair is the sex chromosome in male this is XY, and in female it is XX.

If the sperm carrying the X Chromosome fuses with the egg carrying the X chromosome the offspring will be a female

If the sperm carrying the Y chromosome fuses with the egg carrying X chromosome the offspring will be male
