Answer!   Answer!!   Answer!!!

Homologous series

Homologous series are a series of carbon compound with regularly varying

chain lengths and the same functional group. Adjacent compound differs by

CH2 unit and H4 molecule mass.

CH3- CHO, CH3CH2-CHO are two consecutive member, of homologous series

of aldehydes.

I. The carbon Chain length determines physical properties.

II. The functional group determines chemical properties.

Homologous series may be series as series of organic compound having similar structure and similar chemical properties in which succeive member differ in molecular formula by -CH2 group . the different members in the series are called Homologus.

Aldehydes commonly represented as -CHO.
using the formula formaldehyde is HCHO and that of aceldehyde is CH3CHO.

The chemical properties of these compounds are similar because of similar functional group but have different physical properties . They show difference in boiling and melting point of homologous compound.
