Answer:

6 ,2

Explanation:

v1+v2=8

v1-v2=4

so v1=6

v2=2

MathIsEpic: Actually the quetion is wrong, in the second sentence it is given "Distance between the objects increases by 4m/s, and it is given they are moving with same speed, so it is not possible
MathIsEpic: do you agree?

Answer:

The speed of two bodies is 6 m/s and 2 m/s

Explanation:

Let their speeds be x and y.

Given, when they move towards each other, the distance between them decreases by 8 m/s

Since, they are moving towards each other, their relative speed will add up.

So, total speed in first case = x + y

Now, for time = 1 seconds, the total distance travelled is 8 m.

Distance = speed × time

⇒ 8 = (x + y) × 1

⇒ x + y = 8 ........... (1)

Also, when they move away from each other, the distance between them increases by 4 m/s.

Now, since they are moving away, their relative speed would be subtracted.

⇒ total speed = x - y

Again, for time = 1 second, the distance is 4 m

⇒ 4 = (x - y) × 1

⇒ 4 = x - y ........ (2)

Now, add (1) and (2)

⇒ x + y + x - y = 8 + 4

⇒ 2x = 12

⇒ x = 12/2

⇒ x = 6 m/s

And, put x in any equation to get y

x + y = 8

⇒ y = 8 - x

⇒ y = 8 - 6

⇒ y = 2 m/s

Hence, the speed of two bodies are 6 m/s and 2 m/s
