Plants generally have many types of tissues. It has meristematic and permanent tissues. Of these permanent tissues play the role of protection and mechanical support of the plant. Permanent tissues are further classified as simple tissues (parenchyma, collenchyma and sclerenchyma) and complex tissues (xylem and phloem). The simple tissues mainly help in protection and mechanical support while xylem and phloem help in conduction of water and food respectively.
