QUESTION

If ( x + y) ² = 100, and (x - y)² = 4 , then find value of xy .

✴SOLUTION✴

Given Equation:-

  • (x+y)² = 100
  • (x + y ) = 10 ......(1)

And,

  • (x - y )² = 4
  • (x - y )= 2..........(2)

Addition of equation (1) and (2)

=> 2x = 12

=> x = 12/2

=>x = 6.

Keep value of x in equation (1)

=> 6 + y = 10

=> y = 10 - 6

=> y = 4 .

Value of xy :-

  • xy = 6 × 4
  • xy = 24 .

ANSWER VERIFICATION:-

keep value of x and y in equation (1)

=> ( 6 + 4 )² = 100

=> (10)² = 100

=>100 = 100

L.H.S. = R.H.S.

So, we can say that value of x and y is correct.
