principle of superposition states that in a system of n charges force on a given charge is the vector sum of the individual forces exerted on a given charge by all other charges

let us consider n charges,

force on a charge due to all other charges be f1

now, force on a charge due to 1st charge be f12

similarly for send,third....upto nth charge force be f1n

now, total force on the charge

f1=f12+f13+f14.....+f1n

we know that f=kq1q2/r^2(columb's law)

f1=kq1q2/r12^2+kq1q3/r13^2+kq1q4/r14^2......+kq1qn/r1n^2

take out common kq1

f1=kq1{q2/r12^2+q3/r13^2......qn/r1n^2}

f1=kq1qi/[r1-ri]^2

where i=2 upto n

you can covert it into vector form because i cant type it

dont get confused in r12,r13 etc they are just to represent the direction of force
