Answer:

median(M) = 25.5

Step-by-step explanation:

first you have to make another column in the data :

Class Interval           f                    cf  (commulative frequency)

0 - 8                          8                   8

8 - 16                         10                 18

16 - 24                       16                 34

24 - 32                      24                58

32 - 40                      15                 73

40 - 48                       4                  77

for finding median of a grouped distribution, we have following formula :

M=L+\frac{\frac{n}{2}-F}{f}C

M - median

L - lower limit of the "median class"

n - total frequency

f - frequency of the median class

F - Commulative frequency of the class preceding median class

C - Class interval

n = 77

for finding median class, the steps are :

\frac{n}{2} = 38.5

median class is that class which has least commulative frequency but also greater than n/2 .................. 24-32

now, L = 24 , f = 24 , F = 34 , C = 8 , n = 77

putting the values in the "Median Equation" gives the median.

therefore,

M  =24+\frac{38.5-34}{24}*8

    =24+\frac{4.5}{3} =24+1.5 =25.5
