Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

given:

a+b=5    ....1

a*b=6    ....2

a^{2} +b^{2} =  ?

from 2,

b=6/a      ....3

substituting 3 in 1 and simplifying it...

a^{2} -5a+6=0

we get a=3,b=2  or   a=2,b=3.

for

a^{2} +b^{2}

3^{2} +2^{2} =13\\2^{2} +3^{2}=13.

hence we end up getting 13 as our answer...

hope it helps...
