(a) Imagine the tree, and the ruler as two parallel lines. Let the eye of the girl be a point A.

The ruler ends are points B and C

The ends of the tree are points P and Q.

We have two triangles. ΔABC and ΔAPQ. BC║PQ

∠BAQ = ∠PAQ (same angle)

∠ABC = ∠APQ (BC║PQ, corresponding angles)

ΔABC is similar to ΔAPQ (by AA similarity criteria)

The ratio between heights of similar triangles is proportional to ration between sides.

Height of ΔABC is 60 cm and height of ΔAPQ is 2000 cm.

Length of BC is 30 cm. We need to find PQ

\frac{2000}{60} = \frac{PQ}{30}

PQ = 1000 cm\\\\\\\huge\black\boxed{PQ=10m}\\

Height of tree is 10 m
