According to Boyle's law : P₁V₁ = P₂V₂

(a) Initial Pressure : P₁ and Initial Volume : V₁

Given that Final Volume is 1/4th of the Initial Volume

⇒ V₂ = 1/4 × V₁

Substituting in Boyle's law we get :

⇒ P₁ × V₁ = P₂ × 1/4 × V₁

⇒ P₂ = 4P₁

Hence the Pressure applied must be 4 times the Original Pressure

(b) Initial Pressure : P₁ and Initial Volume : V₁

Given that Final Volume is 1/3rd of the Initial Volume

⇒ V₂ = 1/3 × V₁

Substituting in Boyle's law we get :

⇒ P₁ × V₁ = P₂ × 1/3 × V₁

⇒ P₂ = 3P₁

Hence the Pressure applied must be 3 times the Original Pressure

(c) Initial Pressure : P₁ and Initial Volume : V₁

Given that Final Volume is 2/3rd of the Initial Volume

⇒ V₂ = 2/3 × V₁

Substituting in Boyle's law we get :

⇒ P₁ × V₁ = P₂ × 2/3 × V₁

⇒ P₂ = 3/2 × P₁

Hence the Pressure applied must be 3/2 times the Original Pressure
