The reaction in which the unsaturated hydrocarbons add hydrogen in the presence of catalysts to become saturated hydrocarbons is called addition reaction

Addition reaction is possible in unsaturated hydrocarbon such as ethene ( C2H4)

Catalyst is essential to be added for conducting addition reaction

Ex :- C2H4 + H2 ( in the presence of nickel as catalyst) = C2H6 ( ethane)
