Given:

✰ Initial velocity = 0 m/s

✰ Final velocity = 2.8 m/s

✰ Acceleration = 1.5 m/s

To find:

✠ Time taken

Solution:

Using first equation of motion:

v = u + at

Now, substitute the values given below in first equation of motion,

✰ Initial velocity = 0 m/s

✰ Final velocity = 2.8 m/s

✰ Acceleration = 1.5 m/s

➟ 2.8 = 0 + 1.5 t

➟ 2.8 = 1.5 t

➟ t = 2.8/1.5

➟ t = 2 s ( approx. )

The time taken to reach velocity of 2.8 m/s is about 2 seconds.

Equations of motion:

First equation of motion:

  • v = u + at

If initially the body is at rest then, u = 0

  • v = at

When body is falling freely under the action of gravity, then ( a ) = +g

  • v = u + gt

when body rises up vertically upward then, a = -g

  • v = u - gt

Second equation of motion:

  • S = ut + 1/2 at²

If initially the body is at rest then, u = 0

  • S = 1/2 at²

Acceleration ( a ) = +g ( acceleration due to gravity ) when body is falling freely, then

  • S = ut + 1/2 gt²

Acceleration ( a ) = -g, ( acceleration due to gravity ) when body rises up vertically, then

  • S = ut - 1/2 gt²
