"Friction is a cause that opposes any relative motion between two surfaces in contact. The frictional force directly depends on the normal reaction between the two surfaces in contact. The coefficient of friction Is given in ratio of frictional force to the normal reaction."

Friction is the opposing, resistive force between two fluid, solid, or any material surfaces, that acts to hinder relative motion between them.
The coefficient of friction is given by the ratio of Frictional force to the normal reaction.
*Friction is a force whereas coefficient of friction is just a dimensionless number.*
