Explanation:

since the speed of both the cars is decreasing with time, so both have a retarded motion .

now initial velocity of the first car is ,

u=52km/hr

= 52×5/18= 14.4m/s

initial velocity of the second car, u=3km/hr.

=3×5/18= 0.83m/s

The speed time graphs of both the cars is shown in the photo.

1) distance travelled by car moving at 14.4m/s= area of POQ= 1/2×OQ×PO

=1/2×14.4×5

= 36mt.

2) distance covered by car moving at 0.83m/s =

area of OLN=1/2×LO×ON

= 1/2×0.83×10

=4.15mt.

The car moving at 52km/hr travels more distance on the application of brakes
