The addition reaction is the one in which a double bond is replaced by another element.... this takes place in unsaturated hydrocarbons i.e.,those which contain double or triple bonds...example of addition reaction is hydrogenation of vegetable oils into vanaspati ghee etc. ...Catalysts in this reaction fastens the speed of the reaction...It is different from substitution reaction because it takes place in unsaturated hydrocarbons whereas substitution reaction take place in saturated hydrocarbons...in substitution reaction the atom is substituted by another but in addition reaction it is added to the hydrocarbon...
