cos^2 theta - sin ^2 theta = cos 2theta

so...

cos 60 = cos 2( 30 ) degree..

now u may easily slove this further...

as we know cos30 = √3/2
sin30 = 1/2

so cos²30 = 3/4
sin²30= 1/4
cos²30-sin²30= 3/4 - 1/4
= 1/2
