The apneustic center (or apneustic area) of the lower pons appears to promote inhalation by a constant stimulation of the neurons in the medulla oblongata.

siddharamgaddi: Pneumotaxic center. The pneumotaxic center is located in the upper part of the pons. Its nuclei are the subparabrachial nucleus and the medial parabrachial nucleus. Thepneumotaxic center controls both the rate and the pattern of breathing.
