Central idea of poem A Lament-

This is one of the most pathetic poem of P. B. Shelly . Every word of this poem is charged with the feelings of sorrow and disappointment . The poet feels that he is standing on the last steps of his life . Everything is against him . He looks on his past life with a faint heart and things that his future days are numbered in this world . He mourns that joys of life will not return to him anymore . He thinks himself as a burden . Now his days and nights are dull and joyless . He has lost faith that he will never be happy again . He is not able to enjoy the beauties of nature . Natural objects like spring , summer and winter - frost do ot seem him to be fresh , delightful and sweet . He finds himself in the ditch of deep disappointment and there is no end of his sorrow.

This  poem is composed by PB Shelley. The poem is  product  of poet's disappointments and failures  in life. The youth of the poet  has  deserted  him and he is now incapable of enjoying  the  pleasures  offered  by the life  and  nature.Every word  of the  poem is charged  with an indescribable  feeling  of regret  and  disappointment. He  imagines that  he  is  standing  on the last  step of time. He  looks at  his past  life with a faint heart and feels  that  his future  days are  numbered  in  this world. He  regrets that  his youthful vigour and  joys of life  will not return any more. Now, his days and nights  are dull and  joyless. The  beauties of nature  , instead of  sending  a  thrill of  delight into his heart only intensify his grief.
