The stars in our sky do not always align,

But, beside every hospital bed is a lifeline,

An even path at the end of a rocky road,

They care for us, with none at all owed.

 

The stress upon their shoulders, unimaginable,

The strength they wield, unmatchable,

Desperately saving us from harsh reality,

Saving us, from the buzzer signalling finality.

 

Pain woven into life like a shoe and lace,

Daily grief almost eternally commonplace,

Not a moment to spare to process him from her,

Time in this world, a distant blur.

 

Don’t expect us to thank them,

Even though they rebuild us, from root to stem,

Treating the hospital bed like a mother with a cradle,

Doing everything in their power to ensure living isn’t fatal.

 

So I’ll say it for humanity, thank you heroes, for all you have done,

Because of you, faith is restored, for any battle can be won
