*Slowly, silently, now the moon
Walks the night in her silver shoon;

= The moon is rising, casting its silvery light.

* This way, and that, she peers, and sees
Silver fruit upon silver trees;

=The moon moves over the trees, making them appear.

* One by one the casements catch
Her beams beneath the silvery thatch;

=The moon is reflecting on the window.

* Couched in his kennel, like a log,
With paws of silver sleeps the dog;

=The dog is sleeping in the dog house. The moon light is reflecting off his paws.

* From their shadowy coat the white breasts peep
Of doves in a silver-feathered sleep;

=The doves are sleeping and the moon is reflecting off their chest.

* A harvest mouse goes scampering by,
With silver claws, and silver eye;

=The harvest mouse running by, and the moon is reflecting on his claws and eyes.

* And moveless fish in the water gleam,
By silver reeds in a silver stream.

=The fish are motionless, and the moon is reflecting off the stream.
