point A lies on the line segment XY joining X(6,-6) and Y(-4,-1) in such a way that XA/XY =2/5. If point A also lies on the line 3x +k(y+1)=0,find the value of K.

The value of k is 2.

Step-by-step explanation:

By using the section formulae,

P = {[(mx2 + nx1)/(m + n)], [(my2+ny1)/(m+n)]}

Given that,

The substitute os the values m1 = 2 , x2= -4 , m2 = 3 , y2 = -1, y1 = -6

By applying this in the above formula, we get

= (-8 + 18)/5, (-2 - 18)/5

As we know,

[ 2, -5] is the coordinates of a

by substituting in the equation 3x+ k(y+1)= 0

3(2) + k(-4+1) = 0

6 + k(-3)=0

k = -6/-3

∵ k = 2
