12 u is the mass of one carbon-12 atom.

And u is atomic mass unit whose actual mass in kg is 1.66 x 10^-27 kg

Most convenient unit in case of mass of atom or molecule.

But 12 g is mass of 1 gram mole of carbon -12 which has 6.023 x 10^23 atoms in it

So as you mulitply 6.023 x 10^23 x 12 x 1.66 x 10^-27 you would get 0.012 kg

It would be 12 g.
