Points (1,2), (-2,-3), (2,3) do not lie in the same quadrant.

  • The sign convention of points in the first quadrant is (+,+), for points in the second quadrant is (-,+), for points in the third quadrant is (-,-) and for points in the fourth quadrant is (+,-).
  • So, the points given in the question are (1,2), this point will lie in the first quadrant. The point (-2,-3) will lie in the third quadrant. Point (2,3) also lies in the first quadrant.
  • Therefore, these points do not lie in the same quadrant. Two of them are in 1st quadrant and one is in the third quadrant.

Given :

points (1,2) , (-2 -3) , (2,3)

To find :

whether the given points lie in the same quadrant or lie in the first, third or fourth quadrant.

Solution :

Sign conventions for the points in four quadrants .

  1. sign conventions for the points in the first quadrant are (+,+)
  2. sign conventions for points is second quadrant are ( -, +)
  3. Sign conventions for the points in the third quadrant are (-, -)
  4. Sign conventions for the points in the fourth quadrant are ( +, -)

Given points are

(1,2) both are positive so it lies in first quadrant.

(-2, -3) it shows (-, -) sign conventions do the point lies in third quadrant.

(2,3) also lies in the first quadrant.

so the correct option is ( b )

Hence the points (1,2) , (-2, -3) and (2,3) do not lie in the same quadrant.
