Points a and b are 70 km apart on a highway . A car a and another from b start simultaneously. If they travel in the same direction, they meet in 7 hour,but if they travel towards each other,they meet in one hour. Find the speed of the two cars

Let the speed of car A be X speed of car B be Y
Case i) When they move in same direction,
using formula speed = distance/time
which gives,
=>7X - 7Y=70
=>X - Y=10. ------------------(i)
case (ii)
When they move toward eachother they meet in one hour therefore equation is
=>X + Y=70-------------------(ii)
Eliminating equation i and ii we get,
=> X - Y =10
& X + Y=70
--------------------
2X=80
=>X=40
putting this value in equation i we get,
=>40 - Y =10
=>Y = 30
Hence speed of car A is 40km/hr
& speed of car B is 30km/hr
