The value of p is 15.

Step-by-step explanation:

It is given that points a and b have coordinates (7, - 3 )and( 1, 9) respectively.

The equation of line is

y-y_1=\dfrac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}(x-x_1)

y-(-3)=\dfrac{9-(-3)}{(1-7)}(x-7)

y+3=\dfrac{12}{-6}(x-7)

y+3=-2(x-7)

y+3=-2x+14

y=-2x+14-3

y=-2x+11

The equation of line is y=-2x+11.

It is given that ( - 2, p) lies on it.

Substitute x=-2 and y=p in the above equation.

p=-2(-2)+11

p=4+11

p=15

Therefore, the value of p is 15.
