Points p and q trisect the line segment joining the points A(-2,0) and B(0,8) such that P is near to A.

P divides line joining the points A(-2,0) and B(0,8) in the ratio of 1 : 2 and Q divides in the ratio of 2 : 1 .

use section formula to find co-ordinates of P and Q.

P=\left(\frac{1\times0+2\times-2}{1+2},\frac{1\times8+2\times0}{1+2}\right)\\\\=\left(\frac{-4}{3},\frac{8}{3}\right)

similarly,

Q=\left(\frac{2\times0+1\times-2}{2+1},\frac{2\times8+1\times0}{2+1}\right)\\\\=\left(\frac{-2}{3},\frac{16}{3}\right)
