Those who attack and rob ships at sea are known as pirates.

The history of pirates goes back to 800 BC, when the merchants from modern day Lebanon who traded through Mediterranean sea were being robbed by Aegean Sea pirates.

We witnessed the pirates again in 1st century B.C in Mediterranean sea and in 11th and 12th century in English Channel. The 16th and 17th century was the Great age of pirates as it was during this period the sea trade was flourishing all over the world.
