polishing a surface beyond a certain limit may increase friction.why?

This is certainly true.No surface is fine,every surface has some roughness.there are irregularities.These irregularities,if rubbed with another rough surface,The the other surface's particles would be rubbed of and hence,making the surface more rough and friction increases.
