Political implications of the revolt of 1857:
- Annexation by Lapse Procedure Theory of Indian States. Awadhi’s suspension on grounds of mismanagement. Disrespectful English conduct towards the Mughal Emperor as he was ordered to forfeit the Red Fort.
- They also said from now on that his heir would not recognize the royal title i.e. Emperor of India. Many rulers pensions like Nana Saheb have been halted. Dalhousie's time (1848-1856) was established as a major factor in the 1857 uprising.
- A well-known strategy of his reign was 'Lapse Doctrine’. Under this, the British captured a lot of provinces, including Satara, Jaitpur, Sambalpur, Jhansi, who grew recklessly.
