Political obligation refers to the moral duty of citizens to obey the laws of their state. In cases where an act or forbearance that is required by law is morally obligatory on independent grounds, political obligation simply gives the citizen an additional reason for acting accordingly.

Nature of political obligation:    

• Every person has to accept the laws and authority of the constitution.  

Lack of acceptance will create chaos  

• People who don’t obey laws will be punished accordingly.  

Characteristics of political obligation are:  

Laws extend beyond morality and don’t allow morally innocent behaviour and compelling acts. In such a case, the only duty of an individual is to stick to his/her political obligation.
