Q. What do you mean by constitution?
Ans. Constitution is a body of fundamental principles according to which a state is governed
The constitution is a compact document that comprises of a number of articles, about the state.
The constitution comprises the composition, powers and functions of the government. There
are also mentioned about the rights and duties of the citizens.
Q. What is meant by Preamble?
Ans. Preamble is the most precious part of the constitution, it is the soul of the constitution and
it is a key to the constitution
Q. Why do we need constitution?
Ans. The constitution is needed for the following reasons.
1. The constitution provides a frame work within which a government has to work
2 It controls the misuse of power by the governments.
3. It minimizes the chances of disputes among the various organs of the government as it
clearly defines their powers and functions.
4. It safeguards the fundamental rights of the citizens.
5. It establishes rule of law.
Q. Who made our Constitution?
Ans. The constitution of India was made by a constituent Assembly, which was setup under
the cabinet mission plan 1946. The first meeting of the constituent Assembly was held on Dec.
1946, but the Muslim League boycotted it and the work of the constituent Assembly was
seriously handicapped.
On 29 August, 1947 the constituent Assembly of India setup a drafting committee of seven
members which Dr. Ambedker as its Chairman to prepare a draft constitution for India. The
committee submitted its report on 21 February, 1948. The draft committee was introduced in
the constituent Assembly on 5 November, 1948. The Constituent Assembly took 2 years U
months and 18 days to prepare the constitution.
