The term political science stems from the approach that is used to study politics, which is to employ the scientific method. With the extensive growth of methods training, and the drive towards the replicability of research outputs in political science currently, there are strong elements of science within the discipline. The usage of the name “political science” has been at times controversial, and there were extensive within discipline debates about how the discipline should be conceived of, especially during the times of the behaviouralist movement.

Political science is a social science which deals with systems of governance, and the analysis of political activities, political thoughts, and political behavior. It deals extensively with the theory and practice of politics which is commonly thought of as determining of the distribution of power and resources.
