I support this statement that politicians should be selected in terms of merit instead of popularity because, in the end, it's their intelligence which is going to help the society. Popularity does not reflect the rationality and IQ of an individual which is one of the major reasons why the political framework of our country is perishing.

The politicians use false means such as corruption and bribe whereas the candidates with high educational degrees which could do a lot better for the society lag behind.This will serve three great purposes.

The first is that it ensures equality as the people who have the potential will get a chance to come forward and contribute to the development of the country. 

Secondly,  it will encourage education even at rural levels as people which is will itself help in the development of the country.

And last but not the least, it will help curb corruption as well as people will compete on the basis of merit and thus will help eradicate corruption as well.

Solution: politicians are the governing agent that takes necessary decisions relating to the welfare of the nation.

They should be selected not on the basis of their fame and popularity but in accordance with the merit and their integrity. Qualified politician would take a far better decision than an unqualified one.
